The Second Life® (SL) real estate market continues to boom, the total number of
SL residents has now surpassed 6 million, and SL's inworld Land Sales classifieds
search is bulging at the seams. SL residents have been asking for an easier way
to find the perfect virtual residential or commercial property and those selling
land and developed property in SL have been seeking better ways to connect with
prospective buyers. In response, OpenMLS, a real estate multiple listing service
(MLS) will be rolling out SL's first MLS on May 5 with a two-day grand opening event
that will feature the launch of www.openmls.org/secondlife in conjunction with the
opening of the OpenMLS inworld offices at Sede di Marte (38, 38, 38).
Real estate agents, developers, and residents who register as an OpenMLS Seller
will be given access to the MLS free of charge so that they can maintain basic real
estate listings. "The OpenMLS currently includes roughly 1,200 properties for resale
or lease. This is the tip of the iceberg in terms of what?s available in SL. Since
listings change on a daily basis, providing sellers with direct access to the MLS
will be essential to its integrity." notes Corey Leong, OpenMLS Founder and Chief
Technology Officer (also known as the avatar Neo Prinz in SL).
Prospective buyers will be able to search the OpenMLS based price and size of a
SL lot that is for resale or for lease as well as property types (residential, commercial,
ad land), characteristics (flatland, green, hill, beach, snow, waterworld, etc.),
and rating (Mature, PG, Teen). The OpenMLS office Galleries will feature a number
of premier residential, commercial and ad land properties that are currently available
for sale or lease.
In addition to the rollout of the MLS, OpenMLS has developed a series of free seminars,
dubbed the Newbie Guide Series. These seminars will provide basic information for
avatars on where to acquire property in SL, how to buy or lease land, and MLS Basics.
These seminars, along with informational discussions are scheduled throughout the
two-day event to take place in the OpenMLS Conference and Training Center.
