OpenMLS leverages the power of Google.
Site Design
All of our listings are published in HTML to the site
instead of dynamically generated with a backend database.
This not only makes our listing pages load faster, but Google's
spider, googlebot, can then index all of our listings in Google's database. This allows
anyone in the world using Google to find our listings.
Our Pages' Sizes
Our pages' sizes are optimized for faster
downloading and
interoperability
for different devices such as web browsers, WebTV, cellphones, etc. We plan
to increase our page downloading speeds as we move to CSS1 and XHTML1.0,
two recommendations by the W3C.
Google loves content. When posting your listing,
we highly recommended to describe your listing with a variety of keywords and to use
anywhere from 200-500 words in your listing description.
Outbound Links
OpenMLS links to quality websites such as state-related sites,
governmental, and non-profit organizations. We stay far away from "fads of the day"
or anything that appears unethical or suspect.
Cross-Links
We have taken care to offer many
cross-links within our site. This
helps Google's googlebot to "traverse" our site and index all of its content.
For example, all listings are linked from a location page, logs page, and categories page.
Static IP Address
Google
prefers websites with a static IP over dynamic IPs or virtual hosting because
static websites are easier "to crawl". We use a static number and the internet protocol (IP) number is 65.77.211.60.
Community Offerings
We offer community options such as email this
listing, mailing lists,
and in the near future forums, polls, and listing reviews.
